You know the old saying, "It's not the heat but the humidity!". Well, what bothers you the most: the heat (sorry Ed) or the humidity?

Greetings!

It has now been three months since we gathered for the 2010 IDEA Conference in Tampa.  I hope that everyone who was able to attend took away some new ideas, knowledge, and relationships.  If you were not able to make it, I’ll look forward to seeing you at our next conference in July of 2011 in Kansas City.

It’s not too early to start thinking about our gathering in Kansas City.  The Executive Board will meet this summer to plan the conference and take care of IDEA business.  During this meeting, we will discuss each and every issue raised on the conference surveys you filled out in Tampa.  We are always trying to make the conferences and the organization better, so we value the opinion of our members.  If you have any issues that you would specifically like discussed that perhaps you did not raise on your survey form, please feel free to contact me or any board member and I will add it to our agenda.

Along these lines, many of you have expressed an interest in helping with some conference planning.  Do you have some ideas for classes or forums that you think will make the conference more rewarding?  The Conference Content Committee is always looking for people to help plan the conference program.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Sarah Rose at sarah.rose@daktronics.com.  This is a great way to get involved with the organization.

This summer, we will be launching a new IDEA website.  I will let everyone know the launch date when it draws near.  In the meantime, the old website is still operational, and I would encourage everyone to check it on a regular basis.  I would recommend checking out the job postings section.  It is in the “Members” tab, click on “Classifieds.”  Many of these job postings are time sensitive, so it’s important to catch these listings as they are posted.

Our friends at Seminole Productions at Florida State University have asked for some help from the membership, so I thought I would pass this along from Jim Garbarino:

Hello IDEA Friends,
We are looking at installing a monitor/video wall system in the atrium of our athletic department building. We are looking at something maybe 5-6 feet tall in a true 16x9 ratio. Are any of you using such an application and if you are could you please send us a quick email about what you are doing? Please include the make and size of what you are using and any thoughts you may have on your current system or anything you would change. We would appreciate any assistance you can provide. You can email me or Mark Rodin (marodin@fsu.edu) at your convenience.

Thanks, Jim Garbarino (jgarbarino@fsu.edu)

If anyone can help Jim and Mark out, please contact them directly.  Thanks.

As this is my first term as President, please remember that I am extremely grateful for the support of my fellow members.  This is our organization, and it will only be successful with the help of all our Active and Allied members.  Thank you, and I can’t wait to see everyone next summer in Kansas City!
