GMA Entry Information

The 2010 Golden Matrix Awards Entry Deadline has passed

The Golden Matrix Awards (GMAs) are open to all Active members of IDEA in good standing.  To be eligible for the GMAs, the entry must have played on the display of the Active member during the Active member's event.  All entries must have first appeared on a venue’s display system during the period beginning 60 days prior to IDEA’s previous annual conference and ending 75 days prior to IDEA’s upcoming annual conference.

Eligibility dates for the 2010 competition: November 23, 2008 - December 1, 2009.

The GMA Committee reserves the right to settle any and all questions of eligibility, verify all entry information and resolve all differences through its committee procedure.  The president of IDEA has final authority in all disputes between the entrant and the GMA Committee.

Each individual GMA entry must be submitted directly to the current GMA Video Director according to the submission guidelines.  (See below for complete details.)  All GMA entries shall become property of IDEA and may be used by IDEA for promotional and archival purposes, including possible podcast, cablecast, or broadcast applications.  No GMA entries will be returned.

PLEASE BE ADVISED that there are some changes from past competitions.  Please read the following entry preparation and rules carefully to avoid disqualification.

1. Each individual production may only be entered once. No production may be submitted in more than ONE category, with the following exception: an excerpt from a production entered in another category may be incorporated into entries in either the “Best Overall Video Display” or “Best Overall Matrix Display” categories.

2. We would prefer all entries to be submitted on tape, but will accept the below file based formats.  All entries should still contain a slate at the front that includes the GMA category, title of entry and TRT.  Teams should submit their tapes or files in one of the following formats:

  Tape
  Beta SP
      DVCAM
  Digital Betacam       XDCAM HD
DVCPRO 25 mb and 50 Mb
      XDCAM
  HDCAM       DVCPRO HD
  File Base Format
Uncompressed QT - 48K stereo audio       Uncompressed AVI - 48 stereo audio

ALL ENTRIES MAY BE COMPILED ONTO ONE TAPE OR DATA DVD.  As a result, individual tape labels are no longer needed.  Please list your entries on the tape label using the following format:

Organization Name

1. “Entry Name” – GMA Category
2. “Entry Name” – GMA Category

Remember:  Submit all entry forms in electronic form.  No need to print out.

3. A separate GMA entry form must be filled out online, in its entirety, for each individual GMA entry. Failure to fill out the entry form completely will subject the entry to disqualification. No information involving production budgets or creative resources will be requested.

4. Each entry must be accompanied by payment in full of the $35.00 per entry fee. Payment may be made on line with credit card or a check may be submitted with the entry reel.  NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PAYMENT.

5. Each entry must be submitted "as aired", as the fans saw and heard it. NO additional audio or video elements or treatments may be used. However, if applicable, matrix support may be added to any "video" entries.

6. Each entry tape must begin with color bars, tone and slate. These items will be used by the GMA Video Director for calibration purposes. If you have multiple entries on a tape or data DVD be sure and slate each.

7. Any entry exceeding the set time limit for its category will automatically be disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS. If the production to be entered is longer than the stated time limit for that category, then the entry must fade to black prior to the stated time limit. This fade to black must be done by the entrant. It will NOT be done by the GMA Video Director.
